Where does KOOB come from?
KOOB originates from Scandinavia where legend goes that the Viking used to play it more than 1,000 years ago. The game is therefore often referred to as The Viking Game.
Did the Vikings really play KOOB?
Legend has it that the Vikings used to play with sticks and firewood. Although no hard evidence is available, we can easily picture Harald Bluetooth relaxing with a game of KOOB!
Is KOOB The Viking Game® also KUBB?
In Scandinavia, you will see KOOB The Viking Game called by many different names. The most common of these are kubb (pronounced koob), Viking chess, the king game or simply the Viking game. Our official KOOB The Viking Game is a play on these names, but have no fear. Although the names vary, KOOB The Viking Game is the same game designed and used in ancient Scandinavian tradition!
Where can I buy the game?
You can buy the game from one of our partner stores.
What is the game made of?
The game is made of white birch, harvested from sustainable forestry practices. White birch is hardwood which gives you durable, long-lasting game set.
Why is the game made of untreated wood?
The Vikings didn’t have lacquer, did they? Untreated wood allows for a chemical-free, durable game which we frankly believe is the best kind.
Why do the KOOB sets not look exactly alike?
The beauty of natural products is that they are unique. Therefore, no KOOB set will look exactly alike. The pattern and the shape have their own distinctiveness. As the game is handmade from natural wood, small imperfections such as knots and small cracks may occur, giving their own little characteristics to the set. These imperfections add to the charm of the game and are therefore non-refundable.
What is the size of the game?
The size of the game is ideal for families and informal play. This is not a tournament size game.
